5 Fun Boston Activities to try During this Holiday Season

December is finally here, and that means the 2023 holiday season is in full swing in Boston. There is always so much to do in Boston regardless of the time of year, but the city is exceptionally exciting during this time of year with activities for people of all ages. Here at Rentwise Boston, we have created a list of some of our favorite holiday activities that we recommend you try out for yourself this year.

Visit the "Snowport"

The first activity on our list is taking a trip to the “Snowport Marketplace” in Seaport.

Snowport Marketplace in Boston

This seasonal, outdoor marketplace is a relatively new addition to Boston, taking place for the 5th time this year in 2023. Visiting Snowport is a great way to get in the holiday spirit, as you can shop for amazing and unique holiday gifts for your loved ones, or even treat yourself. The little shops in Snowport sell everything from sports memorabilia to jewelry to handknit sweaters and homemade candles. Not only are there adorable shops to browse, but there is also delicious food and beverage available selling goodies like chocolate covered waffles and hot alcoholic beverages (for the 21+ patrons obviously).

Skate on the Frog Pond

The next activity on our list is a Boston classic, ice skating on the Frog Pond in Boston Common. The Frog Pond is one of the most popular places to go ice-skating in Boston and for good reason. Skating on the Frog Pond is a great way to combine fun, exercise, and some much needed outdoor time in the cold New England winter. The pond itself is not only beautiful, but it is also close to the Common’s Christmas tree, which will be lit in an opening ceremony on December 1st.

Admire Holiday Lights Throughout the City

There is no better way to get in the holiday spirit than by looking at some beautiful lights. There are many sites in Boston that put on lights in December, including Copley Square, Commonwealth Avenue, The Public Garden, and outside Faneuil Hall at Columbus Park. There is even a Holiday Lights Trail that goes throughout Boston that visitors can take via trolley.

Attend a Holiday Show

The Nutcracker Play

During this time of year there is a wide variety of shows celebrating the holiday season. Some of the most popular holiday shows in Boston are the Commonwealth Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” or local productions of Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol”. Although people of all ages are welcome to attend the theater, the aforementioned shows are generally for a more mature audience. As an alternative, families with young children could attend the Disney on Ice show to get in the holiday spirit.
